Greetings to you, Mr. Chamberlain,

Notes:
1. mi Kamelana - Mr. Levi Chamberlain was a member of the second company of
missionaries, superintendent of secular affairs for the mission and a missionary
teacher.
2. Makaio Kekuanaoa - Mataio Kekūanāoʻa, of chiefly descent, was married to
Iosepeta Kīnaʻu at the time of this letter and they were both important members of
the royal court. He would become the Royal Governor of the island of Oʻahu
from 1834-1868 and served as a member of the House of Nobles and Privy
Council, and went on to become the 6th Kuhina Nui of the Hawaiian Islands.
3. Ronohiwa & Kauhi - The letter does not clarify which of these two names is a
teacher and which is a student. These are the individuals Kekūanāoʻa supported to
join the Poʻahā.
