Greetings to you, Bingham,
Here is my letter to Jeremiah Evarts. Perhaps you should check, for it might be correct or
might not. I did not compose the letter, J. Pelham, a medical practitioner, did my writing.
Affection to all of you brethren there and those in America and all around the earth.
May we all be granted salvation by Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

�Notes:
1. Bingham - Rev. Hiram Bingham was in the first company of missionaries who arrived in
Hawaiʻi in 1820. At the time of this letter he was residing in Honolulu and overseeing the
building of Kawaiahaʻo Church.
2. Jeremiah Evart - Jeremiah Evarts was a Christian missionary who was serving as
secretary for the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions at the time of
this letter. He was a reformer who advocated for the rights of Native Americans and
wrote under the pseudonym William Penn.
3. J. Pilham - John Pelham was a medical doctor who penned the document mentioned in
this letter.
4. John Adams Kuakini - John Adams Kiʻipalaokū Kuakini was an adviser of Kamehameha
I and brother of Kamehameha's favorite wife, Kaʻahumanu. He became governor of
Oʻahu and in his later years moved to Hawaiʻi Island. He was the Royal Governor of
Hawaiʻi Island during the time of this letter.
