He was the superintendent of secular affairs for the mission and served as a missionary teacher. 2. Poaha - The Po‘ahā, lit. Thursday, is a reference to the bible study meetings, held on Thursdays, that prepared one for baptism and membership in the church congregation. 3. papalewa lewa - Papa lewalewa is a fishing net used in deep water with the lāʻau melomelo, the fish-attracting stick. 4. Gideona Laanui - Gideon Peleiōhōlani Laʻanui was a native of Waimea, Hawaiʻi who was partly raised in the court of Kamehameha I and married Nāmāhana, a sister of Kaʻahumanu.
