Bishop Building, Dec 26, 1868.
L. H. Gulick
Greetings to you,
I have received your letter from the hand of Maawe, and saw the statements there, and we
have acted on it. Maawe has been released as newspaper delivery supervisor because of his
infirmity.
We still do not have his replacement, so on the first Friday of next January, I will send a
boy of mine to the Kuokoa office for this, and we will have an appropriate person to do this job
in the future, along with the names of the subscribers in each area.
With appreciation
J. Ii

Notes:
1. Hale o Bihoba - Most likely the offices or the building of Charles R. Bishop.
2. L. H. Gulika - L.H. Kulika - Dr. Luther Halsey Gulick, born in Honolulu in 1828, was the
son of Rev. Peter J. Gulick, who arrived with the third company of missionaries. He was
a physician, the chief organizer of the Hawaiian Mission Children's Society and the editor
of the Nupepa Kuokoa at the time of this letter.
3. J. Ii - John [Ioane] Papa ʻĪʻī was retired from a long career in government service by the
time of this letter, but was still involved with the Nupepa Kuokoa.
