Mr. Chamberlain,
Here is the aforementioned subject of mine, and my observation of him is clear.
He is speaking to me about joining the Poaha. It is also up to you.
Charles Kanaina

Notes:
1. Mi Kamalani - Mr. Levi Chamberlain was a member of the second company of
missionaries. He was the superintendent of secular affairs for the mission and
served as a missionary teacher.
2. poaha - The Po‘ahā, lit. Thursday, is a reference to the Bible study meetings, held
on Thursdays, that prepared one for baptism and membership in the church
congregation.
3. Charles Kanaina - Charles Kanaʻina was a man of chiefly lineage who married
Miriam ʻAuhea Kekāuluohi. Their son, Willian Charles Lunalilo, became the
sixth monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
4. Keku^amanoha - The name is added in ink after Kanaʻina's penciled signature,
but the identity is uncertain. Kekuamanohā was the father of Kalanimoku and
Boki, but the name may have been inherited by a descendant.
