Notes:
1. Kamalani - Mr. Levi Chamberlain was a member of the second company of missionaries.
He was the superintendent of secular affairs for the mission and served as a missionary
teacher.
2. Kekuanaoa - Mataio Kekūanāoʻa, of chiefly descent, was first married to Kalani Pauahi
and then to Elizabeth Kīnaʻu. He was the Royal Governor of the island of Oʻahu from
1834-1868. He served as a member of the House of Nobles and Privy Council, and went
on to become the 6th Kuhina Nui of the Hawaiian Islands.
3. Mi./Mika Kuini - This could possibly reference a person by the name Mr. Quinn, Mr.
Queen or even Mr. King. Rev. King was in Hawaiʻi at the time of this letter.
