�Notes:
1. Mikamalani - Mr. Levi Chamberlain was a member of the second company of
missionaries. He was the superintendent of secular affairs for the mission and
served as a missionary teacher.
2. poaha- The Po‘ahā, lit. Thursday, is a reference to the Bible study meetings, held
on Thursdays, that prepared one for baptism and membership in the church
congregation.
3. Kekuanaoa - Mataio Kekūanāoʻa, of chiefly descent, was first married to Kalani
Pauahi and then to Elizabeth Kīnaʻu. He was the Royal Governor of the island of
Oʻahu from 1834-1868. He served as a member of the House of Nobles and
Privy Council, and went on to become the 6th Kuhina Nui of the Hawaiian
Islands.
