Along with this letter will be given another document copied from the letter we verified before
you yesterday, the document by which we were appointed as trustees. With it is a document on
which are written the names of most of the people to whom F.J. Greenway is indebted.

Notes:
1. Kealii - This form of address, stricken out in the original, implies that the letter was
addressed to the king, Kamehameha III. No other reference indicates the recipient.
2. F.J. Greenway - Francis John Greenway was a businessman in Hawaiʻi.
3. William French - William French was a Honolulu merchant.
4. Stephen Reynolds - Stephen Reynolds was a sailor, ship owner, harbor pilot, journalist
and businessman.
5. Wm. Ladd - William Ladd was a businessman and was a part of the partnership, Ladd &amp;
Company.
6. Kekuanaoa - Mataio Kekūanāoʻa, of chiefly descent, was first married to Kalani Pauahi
and then to Elizabeth Kīnaʻu. He was the Royal Governor of the island of Oʻahu from
1834-1868, a member of the House of Nobles and Privy Council, the 6th Kuhina Nui
(regent) and the father of Kamehameha IV and Kamehameha V.
