Greetings to you, Cooke,
I received your accounting concerning my debt to you all for the one thousand thirty-four
board feet of wood. That is the extent of my debt to you. And the amount of money is one
hundred fifty-five dollars, and because J.S. Emerson took my one thousand thirty feet of
Northwest lumber, the value being one hundred thirteen dollars, therefore Emerson’s debt to me
is no longer outstanding. Here are fifty-two dollars. Write me out an invoice for the remainder of
my debt to you taking into account the fifty-two dollars. That is my message to you. With
gratitude,

1. Kuke - Amos Starr Cooke, a missionary of the eighth company, was an educator and
businessman in the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. He was headmaster for the Chiefs' Children's
School.
2. J.S. Emesona - John S. Emerson arrived with the fifth company of missionaries and was
stationed in Waialua, Oʻahu.
3. M Kekuanaoa - Mataio Kekūanāoʻa, of chiefly descent, was first married to Kalani
Pauahi and then to Elizabeth Kīnaʻu. He was the Royal Governor of the island of Oʻahu
from 1834-1868, a member of the House of Nobles and Privy Council, the 6th Kuhina
Nui (regent) and the father of Kamehameha IV and Kamehameha V.
