Seminary, Lahainaluna, Sandwich
Islands, March 7th, 1845.
My dear friends, we have heard you
are our dear friends. Our teacher, who teacheus the English language, told us to write
to you all things that we do here. Therefore
I ^will write you all things that I do here, and
my desire to learn the English languge,
and will ^write the names of my books that I have
learned in this Seminary. I have been
in this Seminary four years. And I
studied in some books; because, I thought
that wisdom is a desirable thing. Some
hours of the day I have studied in my
room, and some, I have studied in the school
at the school-house; some hours also I
work. So all the days of the week, except
Saturday. I ^have kept the laws of this Seminary, but some times I have thought to
break them., but that thought is nearly
ended. I desired to learn the English lan-

guge that I may study in many wise
books; because, I have heard many English
books are good. Except I learn the English
languge, then I shall not have very
much wisdom, but I have not thought
to learn the English languge to make
^me richer or a chief. Yet to make all the
people of the Sandwich Islands happy.
I have studied in this school the
Hawaiian books three hours daily.
These are their names.
Geog of the Bible
Bible Chronology
Bible History

Linear and Drawing,
And I have studied in this
school the English languge one hour
daily, the following books.

And a little book for beginners.
Will you write us a letter that
we may read it!

15 years of age, not pious - brother to
John Richardson, knew nothing of the
English when he entered the schoolhis appearance is quite prepossessing.
