Notes:
1. Kamalani - Mr. Levi Chamberlain was a member of the second company of
missionaries, superintendent of secular affairs for the mission and a missionary
teacher.
2. poaha - The Po‘ahā, lit. Thursday, is a reference to the Bible study meetings, held
on Thursdays, that prepared one for baptism and membership in the church
congregation.
3. Kekuanaoa - Mataio Kekūanāoʻa, of chiefly descent, was first married to Kalani
Pauahi and then to Iosepeta Kīnaʻu. He was a member of the royal court and held
important positions for the Hawaiian government throughout his life.
