Greetings to you, Chamberlain,
Here are these congregation members from Waihee. Some of these people have
been written about before, that being three of them. There are four new ones, now being
seven. Their intentions are for the Poaha. Here are their names:
Hipakaka, Paaoao, Luaiakalani, Nawaiola, Kulawahine, Kikoho, Kupihea.
From me, from Heneriaka Umiokalani

Notes:

1. Kamalani - Mr. Levi Chamberlain arrived in Hawaiʻi with the second
company of missionaries. He served as the superintendent of secular affairs
for the mission, and also was a missionary teacher.
2. poaha - The Po‘ahā, lit. Thursday, is a reference to the Bible study meetings,
held on Thursdays, that prepared one for baptism and membership in the
church congregation.
3. Heneriaka Umiokalani - Heneriaka ʻUmiokalani is the writer of this and
several other letters. Although unidentified, she apparently held a position in
the church that allowed her to make recommendations for membership in the
Bible study meetings.
