Lahaina, Maui November 25, 1839
Greetings to you, Mr. Chamberlain,
Here is my message to you. Give the cash of mine to the mate on my ship: thirty
dollars $30.00. That is my message, it is finished.
From Paki
Honolulu, November 27, 1839
$30.00
Here is what I have to report. Mr. Chamberlain gave me the thirty dollars that Paki
ordered in this letter.
Furthermore, I shall return the letter that Hitchcock wrote concerning these funds
[Page 2 of 3]
for Paki's ship, a letter about the thirty dollars.
Chamberlain has written to Paki and I will return this letter from Hitchcock. If not
me, Paki certainly will.

Notes:
1. Mi Kamalani - Mr. Levi Chamberlain was a member of the second company of
missionaries. He was the superintendent of secular affairs for the mission and
served as a missionary teacher.
2. Paki - Abner Kuhoʻoheiheipahu Pākī was a high chief in the court of Kauikeaouli,
Kamehameha III. He married Konia and was the father of Bernice Pauahi Bishop.
He served on the Privy Council, was Chamberlain to Kamehameha III, Assistant
Judge of the Supreme Court, and in the House of Nobles.

3. Hikikoke - This probably refers to Rev. Harvey R. Hitchcock, who arrived with
the fifth company of missionaries and was stationed at Kaluaʻaha, Molokaʻi.
4. Paele - Pāʻele is likely the mate on the ship to whom Chamberlain gave the $30,
and his acknowledgement of the receipt of funds documents the payment.
